For the first time, Sergio Cavallerin’s work are to be displayed in Naples in the amazing Castel Nuovo (also Known by the locals as “Maschio Angioino”). In this solo exhibition, we will have the opportunity to retrace his whole creative journey, departing from cartoons and comics to reach an expression intensely tied to contemporary society, from which he extracts materials, signs, symbols and images, to elaborate them again in a personal way highlighting their Pop aspect – intended as energy and vivacity.
Being a lover of comics, cartoons and art illustrated, Cavallerin has paid his homage to the most famous icons of comics, and is constantly inspired by this world. With his works of the serie Cats the artist explores the universe of this mysterious and unique animal, with the loving and pure eyes of a child, but always keeping in touch with the metropolitan and technological reality in which we live.
In his Polymers works Cavallerin entangles and involves the observer in a searching game, only apparently lighthearted and careless. The reiteration of the question “Where is…?” reflects itself on the canvas, with the reiteration of objects and signs: it’s just the beginning of a journey into a world made of multitudes and redundancies. The onlooker risks to lose guidance, and he will find unexpected answers to the questions.
Without losing his typical hint of irony, in his new series Outsider Cavallerin starts again from overabundance of some goods and ideas to underline extraneousness and discordance of few among majority. Outsider serie is not about difference in the most superficial meaning of the word, but refers to complex and deep diversity thanks to which very few subjects – most of the time unique subjects – will emerge and come out the featureless crowd around them, and at the same time will be condemned to isolation and exclusion.
